Life Path Readings: Generally.
The Tarot’s 22 Major Arcana cards each symbolize a different universal personality archetype. Everyone carries a portion of each
archetype, but in differing strengths. Your sun sign represents the external face you present to the world, and numerology (based on your
birth date) represents your internal and private attributes. Your external and internal Life Path cards indicate that, of all 22 archetypes, you
are most influenced by VII, The Chariot and V, The Hierophant archetypes in your life. The way you participate in the world and the choices
you make are influenced by the strengths and weaknesses of those two archetypes. Knowing this about yourself gives you an opportunity
to play to your strengths and learn from your weaknesses, truly a life-long process.
Further, we cycle through the entire Major Arcana three to five times throughout our lives; each year influenced by one archetype. The year
that you were born (when your age is measured in months) is year Zero – The Fool-Child. Your year as a one-year-old child is
represented by One – The Magician. And so on, to your twenty-first year, which is the year represented by 21 – The Universe. Then you
begin again. Age 22, you are once again in a Fool-Child year, age 23 – the Magician, and so on. You have already cycled through all the
archetypes once, and are in the first quarter of your second cycle. You are in the middle of year 4, Emperor, and on your birthday will begin
year 5, Hierophant, which will be a year of internal discovery and change, as it is the same year as your Internal Self.
(In some Tarot philosophy circles, it is suggested we cycle through all of the Major Arcana in many lives. This suggests that in your next
life, you will again be born in Cancer, The Chariot, but influenced by VI, The Lovers. And so on, for numerous lives.)
Here is your Life Path reading – enjoy!
Sun Sign: Cancer. VII - The Chariot. Your External Life.
This card represents the Law of Motion. This Major Arcana card is in blues and golds. The images include a garlanded charioteer, the
planet Jupiter, an astronaut, an eagle, a horse, a surfer, an airstrip, and other images of endurance, speed, accomplishment and skill.
All Cancers are Chariots. The Chariot represents the Cancer’s External Life – your face to the world is one of a person who utilizes the
safety and protection of her crab-shell to move out into the world, rather than hide from it. You are a woman of action, and if you reflect on
your life, you will find that the times you took action always suited your best interests much better than the times you backed down, turned
a blind eye, or kept quiet. But even more than action and movement, the Charioteer is an athlete. You are at your best when you carefully
train for a change in your life, as an athlete trains for the Olympics. When you plan, make a goal, practice regularly, double-check all your
support systems/equipment to make sure they are in place and in working order, and then whip up your horses and move like there’s no
manana, you succeed like a champion. Your Chariot self is fully alive in the world, able to positively influence others, great both as a
member of a team or as a leader.
Your life’s work is best when you are participating in the race, rather than organizing it. You are better as the actress than the stage hand.
Any position that allows you to influence others, while letting someone else pay attention to the details, will bring out the best in you.
Surround yourself with people you can truly depend on, and you will even better succeed (like a race car driver with an excellent pit crew).
Your home crafting business is an excellent fit for you because it allows you to keep your hands busy and “cross a finish line
successfully” when projects are completed, as well as fulfilling your Cancer home happiness.
This card suggests you stay away from careers that are perpetually unfinished, like housecleaning or politics. You are not happy unless
you can consistently strive to cross a finish line.
Life Number: 6 + 25 + 1981 = 5: Hierophant. Your Internal Life
This card represents the Law of Life-Mastery. The images on this card include a crescent moon, a cup of gold, an elephant, a river,
ancient Mayan ruins, an African child with a book, a crystal, mountains, a wooden staff, and other images of wisdom, teaching and
learning.
According to numerology, your Life Number is V, Hierophant. Your Life Number represents your Internal Life – the face you only show to
yourself and perhaps a handful of close loved ones.
Cancers are highly intuitive, and your Hierophant influence brings this talent to the forefront. Deep inside, you are a translator. Through
your talents as a Tarot reader, for example, you may have noticed an ability to discuss higher intuitive wisdom in lay person language.
Your communication abilities are strong, yet this is a quiet source of strength for you. You would likely be uncomfortable in a career that
demanded you utilize your communication gifts regularly, publicly. Like a painter whose art is brilliant when spontaneously done for
herself yet mediocre when done for pay, you are at your best when keeping your Hierophant gifts to yourself or in your personal inner
circle of friends and family.
The Hierophant is representative of the struggle surrounding the human condition, and the benefits of learning life lessons. Internally,
you believe life is a wonderful teacher, and you are capable of an enduring strength in times of crisis. You understand that pain and
hardship are opportunities to grow, that they are temporary and not defining. You can pull your family through any difficulty that crosses
your way. Suffering can never scar you permanently.
One of the challenges of an Internal Hierophant is a tendency toward dogma. Structure and rules are necessary in life, but you can
become too attached to a certain structure or rules – resisting change. Your internal mantra may be “if it’s not broke, why fix it.” An
excellent mantra generally, but it can be limiting if your Chariot side wants to stretch and reach beyond perceived boundaries.
A studious life suits you, so pursuing a Masters at some point is completely in character, but keep your teaching, communications, and
spiritual gifts to spontaneous acts of kindness that come from an internal source rather than pursue them as an actual external career.
June 25, 2007 through June 24, 2008: Year 4, Emperor.
This card represents the Law of Construction. The images on the card include a ram, an eagle, the earth, a treasure box, piles of old
coins, a whale, the sun rising beyond the Twin Towers, a volcano erupting, a baby tree in the process of being planted, and other images
of power and creating something from almost nothing.
Right now you are in the middle of a foundational, building year for you. The Emperor represents the law of material/worldly development,
with a display of ambition, determination, focus, and leadership.
The Emperor is a visionary. She is not as much about conquering as she is about building empires. This is a year when your ability to
see past and future connections, consequences and outcomes is at its best. You can more easily think ahead to next steps, an important
trait when considering future career goals and the impact on your family.
It is a year to be a pioneer – a mover and a shaker. You see no reason why things can’t get done, and you have a gift for moving
mountains if necessary to problem-solve. You are more innovative and willing to take calculated risks this year. You may find yourself
uncomfortable in situations where your influence is not utilized, especially when your influence would lead to the greater good. People
who choose to be stagnating on purpose will frustrate you this year – but fortunately your Cancer side enables you to put yourself in
someone else’s shoes. You can easily supply the rah-rah emotional stuff, especially if it’ll help to get the job done.
An Emperor year for a Charioteer has a bit of a downside - there are times when you can be headstrong, so busy moving not just yourself
but everyone forward that you forget to slow down and listen carefully, thereby moving some people (who are under your influence) before
they are ready. Your Hierophant side is normally a good listener, but in Emperor years, that gift can be somewhat squelched.
This is the perfect year for spreading all of your options, talents, and skills out on the figurative table and considering which are
foundational for you and your family, and which are simply hobbies/personal interests. You’ll be able to envision the future construction of
your life by studying those foundations, and then architect a plan to begin building.
June 25, 2008 through June 25, 2009: Year 5, Hierophant.
The Year ahead of you will be deeply influenced by the Hierophant, which is also your Internal Self card. All the strengths and weakness
of this card’s attributes will be heightened next year.
Clearly, beginning a Masters program in the fall is an excellent choice. You will be perfectly positioned to learn theory and write practical
applications of it, impressing your professors.
It will also be your best year for becoming spiritually grounded – walking the path of enlightenment in a real-world manner, being the
excellent example to others without preaching.
Next year it is time to act on your Emperor visions by learning, teaching through being, and establishing disciplined routines or rituals to
keep your internal self strong and in growth. Remember, you are in the beginning of your second Archetype Cycle, so you and your family
will face your Hanged Man, Death, Devil’s Play, and Tower years together at some point. Building up your Hierophant strengths in 2008-
09 will position you to be better prepared to breeze through upcoming challenges that life always brings.
Summary
M, when you make life choices that keep in mind your Cancer, Chariot, and Hierophant qualities, your are more likely to make a decision
that resonates with who you are and the goals the Universe has in store for you.
Keeping your life home-centered is in character for you, so continuing your crafts business, Tarot reading, and education makes good
sense this year and next. Taking the time to envision the future with your spouse now, including setting up a disciplined plan, and then
acting on it next year will help you be better prepared for any surprises (life lessons) that may come your way in the out years.
This reading doesn’t show any big changes in your current way of life – rather, it emphasizes visioning, foundation-building, learning, and
spiritual grounding as priorities right now.
I hope this reading has been helpful and enjoyable. Please feel free to ask for any clarifications if necessary. As always, keep in mind that
the Tarot is at its best as a means of hearing your own inner guides, and is meant to complement other personal and professional
resources, not replace them. I encourage you to seek guidance from many sources. When we can perceive Tarot cards as our own inner
teachers with enlightening, enabling messages of higher wisdom, rather than as predictors of the future, we are empowered with the
chance to influence our futures. Your feedback on this reading is always welcome.
Be well, be wise, be ready,
Faerwyn

Sample Life Path Reading
Question: I have a small work-at-home arts/crafts thing going on right now -- my
income isn't terribly important to our family, but it keeps me busy and means I can
buy the things I want (I don't have to buy the things we need, thankfully! We'd starve).
I like it because crafting stuff is very satisfying to me and I get to stay home with our
son, but I am getting close to finishing my BA and wondering if I should pursue grad
school? Or if the universe has something else in mind for me?
My birthday is 6-25-81.
Happy New Year, M!
I have used my favorite Voyager deck for your reading, which blends modern and
ancient symbols from a variety of cultures in a beautiful photographic collage on each
card. I’ve always felt this is the best deck for translating the esoteric into something
pertinent to everyday life.
Your question is explorative in nature and since timing is everything, I thought a Life
Path reading would help you think about your next steps regarding graduate school,
your home business, family and whatever the Universe has in store for you.
Understanding the influences on your life’s journey gives you an opportunity to
glimpse at where you are going and how you will get there, especially appropriate
around the New Year when we are apt to pause and look at where we are in our lives.
